Today, we visited the Kotel, or the remaining Western wall of the ancient Temple Mount. We waited in a huge line to enter the area because there was high security. We stood in awe in front of the 488-meter wall. It was Benjamin Cohen-Berkowitz's bar mitzvah. All of the men were dancing with bottles on their heads, and the women were crowded against the dividing wall trying to see what was going on. Off to the side, there were some Israeli soldiers with guns, observing the party. Then Shmuel Berkowitz, the Bar Mitzvah boy's great-uncle twice removed, arrived with his niece. She tried to greet her third cousin once removed, not knowing that she was not allowed on the male side of the wall. There was a commotion, and she was escorted back to the other side of the dividing wall. When we left, we walked backwards to the main area, facing the wall, until we were far enough away. Afterwards, we went on a tour of the Western Wall Tunnels underneath the wall, which was created from the largest building stones ever found in Israel.
